Japan Earthquake Response

On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan. The earthquake produced a tsunami which struck the port city of Sendai. Japan’s television network showed a massive surge of debris-filled water sweeping away buildings, cars and ships and reaching far inland. It has been reported that the tsunami, spawned by the largest earthquake in Japan’s history, produced over 30 foot waves, sweeping away boats, cars, homes, and people.  Flooding has devastated most of the Japanese north eastern coast.
